Position: Engineering Manager

Summary:
The Engineering Manger will lead a team of engineers responsible for creating next generation products as well as maintaining cutting-edge product lines for Adaptive Instruments Corporation. You will work with team members to define requirement specifications, make high-level decisions, and manage projects from start through completion. In addition all product engineering will be lead through you. A through collaboration with the Manufacturing department by providing any needed engineering support will be expected.

As the Engineering Manager, you will provide an interface with the rest of the company through which product requirements, product roadmaps, and technical discussions will flow. You will also be responsible for projects to extend or fix existing products. The Engineering manager will handle all staffing and management of his department as well as be responsible for the career development of the team.

Some travel will be required (< 10%).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 6-10 responsible for engineering development, design, investigation, and documentation. Provide guidance to team members on tasks and projects. Perform all department personnel management tasks, such as regular status meetings, annual reviews, and recruitment.
  • Hire, coach, and manage the engineering staff and communicate issues and progress to management as needed. Align staff according to skill set and experience required to deliver team goals.
  • Generate design specification and testing requirements documents for new products and technologies.
  • Develop product and technology roadmap with feedback from Sales, CTO, and other business groups. Organize and manage the execution of these plans. Monitor development process and enable team’s compliance with internal standards.
  • Communicate tradeoffs in design choices to internal business groups. Make high-level design decisions with the development team’s input.
  • Actively research industry trends and activities of competitors. Evaluate and recommend new technology and procedures for systems development to minimize costs, improve productivity, and enhance operations.
  • Interface with management team to define department staffing, tools, infrastructure, and technology needs. Maintain an open dialog with business groups with regard to project status.
  • Work closely with engineering group to ensure resources are properly shared and communication is effective.
  • Hire and manage contract engineers when needed.

Skills:

  • Should be engineering design and debugging abilities in the following domains: C based embedded software development, RTOS principles, low-power electronics, EM field based circuit design, sensor design, and electrical instrumentation product engineering.
  • Comfort with interpreting electrical schematics, data-sheets, and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including proven success in working with persons from a wide range of technical background.
  • Thorough understanding of team roles, dynamics, and the ability to create and maintain effective teams in a fast changing small company environment.

Background:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree as well as 5 years of direct engineering experience. Applicants will be considered on demonstrated merit equivalent to the above. A minimum of 3 years engineering management experience.
  • Proven success in delivering quality projects on time, on budget, and within scope. Demonstrated experience in translating business requirements into solutions.
  • Experience in industrial controls and monitoring fields is a plus.
  • Experience in product certification through regulating agencies is a plus.


Position: Electronics Technician

Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for assisting engineers with constructing, debugging, and documenting apparatus for experiments as well as automated production lines. Under engineering guidance design and/or operate experiments, collect data and organize results. Assist in automated production line problem resolution including: fault identification, repair, documentation, and recommendations. Assist in product failure investigations performing fault identification, repair, as well as generating reports and recommendations to the senior quality engineer. Based on data-sheet specifications and product schematics seek out and determine alternate components. Evaluate replacements parts through experimentation with engineering oversight. Develop understanding as well as inventory and maintain engineering lab instruments, parts, and tools as well as make recommendations for future purchases.

Skills:
Strong electrical and mechanical debugging skills as well as meticulous record keeping habits are needed. Comfort with interpreting electrical schematics, data-sheets, and mechanical drawings. Comfort with manually re-working surface-mount electronics as well as knowledge of good soldering practices and electro-static precaution methods. The ability to set-up PC based data collection systems as well as parse data into a convenient form will be needed, prior experience is a plus but demonstrated learning ability is acceptable. Understanding of the scientific method is required as a guide for all activities.

Self-discipline in work ethics is a must.

Familiarity with industrial process monitoring and control systems is a plus.

Position: Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Summary:
We are seeking a senior level Embedded Software Engineer who will design, develop and maintain our products. Qualified applicants will work in a small team of software and hardware developers primarily on new products. This position requires excellent organization skills and meticulous attention to detail. The applicant must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, small company environment.

Functions:

  • Firmware development at all levels, from hardware drivers to application layer.
  • Ability to develop and debug complex embedded systems.
  • Create modular, well organized code.
  • Provide structure and organization to embedded codebase.
  • Stay current with new technologies.

Education & Training:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering and 5+ years experience and a proven track record with embedded software development. Must have strong C language skills and the ability to clearly document software systems and protocols. Extensive experience with embedded operating systems and communications protocols is necessary for the position.
